Coexistence is the fruit of an internet-collaboration between French guitarist Grégory Giraudo and Swedish singer Carl Lindquist. There are still a few pretty big flaws present on this output, but nonetheless this is definitely one of the better EPs I've reviewed so far. Mixing progressive metal with elements of power, heavy and thrash metal, the music these two guys make is very close to something you'd get if you'd put a few Savatage, Iced Earth and Symphony X CDs into a mixer and then glue the parts back together again.

I didn't only make this comparison based on the sound of those three individual bands though. The thing is rather that Carrion Comforts primary weakness is that it does sound as if it were pieced together at times. As it is, the EP sounds a bit artificial. The second weak spot is that even though there are only four songs and a playing time of 18 minutes on this release, it still manages to sound a bit repetitive.

The two musicians are both solid as a rock and despite the aforementioned issues, the songs are still pretty good. In my opinion these two guys should first perfect their teamwork, maybe they should meet up and actually play together for a bit. But if they can manage to get their songs to flow better and add a bit of diversity to their songwriting, they could just put out a fantastic album. Only time can tell for sure, but if I have to place a bet I'll say I believe these guys can do it.

PS: The whole EP can be listened to on their myspace page and can be ordered for only 4 Euros at crissoliva@free.fr
