*The title is a joke, of course
The Current Decade (2010-2019) in order of preference. This is separate from my year-lists, which strive to include as many albums from the year as possible regardless of quality. Only albums I deem worthy of a favorites list by personal taste will make it. I'd say Axioma Ethica Odini has a major step up on anything beneath it this decade; it's the only truly perfect album so far in my eyes. Last overhauled: May 13th. Now it's a bit tighter.
Keep in mind that I was just sorta scanning releases from 2010-2011, so the list will probably feature a lot more from years after that. 2012 on will be a lot more in-depth.
Well, this is just my opinion, so enjoy!
I've decided that I'm going to probably to cut this to two hundred, but that'll most likely be a few years off.

1.
Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini 2010 (A mesmerizing mix of black metal and post rock) |
2.
Septicflesh - The Great Mass 2011 (A symphonic death metal album that lives up to all the hype) |
3.
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room 2011 (Perfect progression from Warning; Patrick Walker = God) |
4.
Antichrist - Forbidden World 2011 (A pure recreation of the thought to be long lost German thrash supremacy. From Sweden. Absolutely crushing. P.S.: It's better than Vektor) |
5.
Agalloch - Marrow of the Spirit 2010 (One of the most harrowing musical experiences ever; better with every listen) |
6.
Shaman - Origins 2010 (Tragically underrated with that Brazillian power metal charm) |
7.
Pharaoh - Bury the Light 2012 (The most consistent power metal band playing today deliver in spades yet again. Bury yourself in this awesomeness) |
8.
Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg 2011 (An arresting hour-long clash of extremity, folkish melody and 70s synths - delectable!) |
9.
Dissona - Dissona 2012 (One of the best prog metal albums I've heard in years. A great debut that promises even greater things) |
10.
Anubis Gate - Anubis Gate 2011 (My favorite band ever strikes back with more sublime, progressive, electronically fused perfection) |
11.
Riot - Immortal Soul 2011 (I've awaited the Thundersteel reunion long, and even I didn't expect this speed onslaught to be so good!) |
12.
Arch/Matheos - Sympathetic Resonance 2011 (John Arch hasn't lost a thing, and neither has the songwriting) |
13.
Ixion - To The Void 2011 (Perfect use of synths and melodies in this epic, spacy doom masterwork) |
14.
Oranssi Pazuzu - Kosmonument 2011 (A thoroughly intense jam through the far reaches of the galaxy) |
15.
Aborted - Global Flatline 2012 (Fun, catchy, brutal. Hell yes.) |
16.
Eumeria - Rebel Mind 2011 (Must-hear debut by a new US progressive power metal act) |
17.
Vader - Welcome to the Morbid Reich 2011 (An awesome headbanging bout of classic death metal) |
18.
Symphony X - Iconoclast 2011 (Endlessly enjoyable; heavy but melodic mastery) |
19.
Les Discrets - Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées 2010 (A truly gripping and beautiful atmosphere; too bad this style died faster than Guitar Hero) |
20.
Horrendous - The Chills 2012 (Pitch perfect old school death metal. For the kid in you.) |
21.
Labyrinth - Return To Heaven Denied Pt.2 2010 (One of the biggest surprises; what a comeback!) |
22.
High Spirits - Another Night 2011 (Some extremely catchy tunes in this classic-minded, polished brew of trad. metal/hard rock) |
23.
Ghost - Opus Eponymous 2010 (Fun as hell record by the Blue Oyster Occult) |
24.
Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones 2010 (A nice extension of Monotheist; slow and absolutely crushing, but not without finesse) |
25.
Enforcer - Diamonds 2010 (I love the Swedish heavy metal revivalist movement, and this is an instant classic) |
26.
Pathfinder - Beyond the Space, Beyond the Time 2010 (This overbearing symphonic breed of flowery power metal usually makes me sick to my stomach, but Beyond... is just epic and catchy enough to work) |
27.
Christian Mistress - Possession 2012 (NWOBHM/70s hard rock FTW! Pay attention to these guys [and girl], seriously) |
28.
Pagan's Mind - Heavenly Ecstasy 2011 (Another excellent album from Norway's powerhouse act) |
29.
Alcest - Écailles de Lune 2010 (Not as in love as I used to be, but it is a decent followup and it's much better than its successor--or should I say failure?) |
30.
Cormorant - Dwellings 2011 (Very unique and engrossing--and seriously,"A Howling Dust" is chilling from its beginning to its emotional end) |

| The lie on #5 is truly unforgivable, however. |

It's amazing, almost just as good as Thundersteel in my opinion. Just serves to make Mark Reale's disease sadder |

+1 for the name, and for including Cormorant's "Dwellings"
Edit: and Riot's Immortal soul, too. |

| Will Enslaved still be at #1 in 2019? |

Will Enslaved still be at #1 in 2019?
It's very much possible. I've yet to hear a thing that touches it in 2011 or 12. Who knows, though, a young up-and-comer or one of the usual suspects (Agalloch, Enslaved with a different album, Septicflesh, Anubis Gate, Evoken, Esoteric, etc.) may overtake them eventually. I don't even have the latter on this list yet, so I should really update it soon. |
