More and more we see black metal bands merging their sounds with a really "ambient" approach. Was wondering if anyone here knows a few of those bands.

Most known and talented bands include :

Nocternity (nothing short of AMAZING albums)
Vinterriket (he's got maybe too many albums but he's really good, and he joined Nocternity as keys player)
Paysage d'Hiver (great raw ambiance and some vinterriket styled keys passage)

True but by the same token this isn't an ambient album either. It makes up part of the sound but it's still very structured in a conventional sense with melody, rhythm and a general memorable construction throughout etc. I don't know what it is to be honest.

Make up a new genre to compete for the throne against djent.

But yeah.. I love the grey area between those genres that LoC creates.

Nice idea, we should call it Lurker metal or something. Ambiguity in music, nothing arouses me more!

Ambient black is really nice. I personally enjoyed the latest from Abruptum. I'm not sure if that is ambient or noise though.

Dark ambient, drone, noise, death industrial, black metal. Had it all if you ask me.

I don't like LoC I don't know why but I just don't like it, maybe it will grow on me if I listen to it more.

LoC need patience. A lot to be exact. If you give them a lot of listening, you'll end up with something you'll really, really like.

This thread died on the first page imo... Right in the minute when someone said "Lurker Of Chalice".

Call me a fanboy or whatever... It just doesn't get better than that fantastic album.

calm yet eerie

And very, very sad. It even beats a lot of those depressive black metal bands at their own game. In a good way though.

Not necessarily. I liked the album as soon as I heard it.

I guess that fully appreciating it and taking hold of those very deep, esoteric emotions takes time. Dunno, might be just an effect of my tryhard-ish listening habits.

Same as Troy... I found it easily appealing. Probably tha's the main reason to why I love it so much. It has so much depth but I loved it from the first listen.

Lurker Of Chalice was very addictive. When I was getting into it, I just listened to it all the time. There was something in it that kept grabbing my attention all the time and pulling me back every time. I think that I'll have to listen to it in bed with my eyes closed soon.

That's basically what I did the very first time. Closed all the curtans and listened to it during the night in complete darkness. The album really opened up for me nicely without a second listen "to undersand the album".

This band is brutally underrated, the What Do You Think Of The Old God, We Call Him Judas? is brilliant but the debut album Urkaos is something else, utterly frighting brilliantly composed ambient BM ... everything about them is unique especially the chants and the production.

You should try Velvet Cacoon. The 'Genevieve' and 'Northsuite' records are amongst my favourite ambient black metal albums.

the thing that made me ambivalent about checking VC was the HUGE amount of stupid rumors surrounding them. Seems lie they have sth other than lies to offer according to you.

What you should understand about the rumours is that everything they did was more or less to show up the often superficial nature of black metallers, and how they often only like things that are extreme or ridiculous. Obviously it was also probably for marketing reasons but personally I found their antics a lot of fun, and most of their music very good.

Been listening to Necktarium lately, seems to be a pretty good ambient bm, also all the lustre albums/demo's. The last one 'Of strength and solace' is very average, like he has run out of ideas or something.
Just ordered darkspace as it sounds like a must listen, also because i like paysage d'hiver

Greetings

0 is a newly formed experimental black metal one man project. The only instrument used in this project is a four string bass. The aim of the project is to explore how far one man with one voice and a four string bass can go.

You can listen to my first album from my channel http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgT3n7DkToq9K-Ion66VHvw . At my channel there is also a link to download the whole album plus the artwork of it. This way, you can actually print for yourself a copy of the album.
