Well I have heard a few songs from this band and thought they where kind of intressting. So basicly I just want recommendations of cd's from them. Other than that since I saw no thread about them, here it is.

PS: I aint to fond of the NS imagry but the few songs I heard made me willing to give the music a shot. Cheers

That "Ukraine" track is downright vomit inducing. I can't believe how many people buy into this shit. It sounds like a really commercial Dimmu song with some folk elements on it. It is also grossly overproduced. Basically it sounds like fruit and cheese punch with some extra fruit sallad and cheese sticks with complementary fruit dip.

The agaion all of Nokturnal Mortum's songs sound like Dimmu borgir with folk elements to me.

Oh calm down. It's a really good album. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to say such shit about it. Downright vomit inducing? Really? How can you even compare it to Dimmu , I don't know. They're not commercial like Dimmu.

I knew once this album had many praising, someone will come and write nonsense about it. Yes, your opinion.. I know. Well this is mine. You'rs is way harsh.

Just because they aren't commercial doesn't mean they can't suck as much.

That said, I don't really have a strong opinion on Голос Сталі.

Listened to couple of these songs from their new album, including Ukraina, on youtube and imo the comparison with Dimmu Borgir is pretty valid. Both are basically entertainment, party music for metalheads, if you will, not something for serious listening. Not that there's something inherently wrong with being an entertainer but I honestly don't see the big difference between them and Dimmu Borgir,
both make pretty shallow and easily digestable safe-sounding "extreme" metal.

The main reason why they're not more commercial is probably their affinity for far-right politics.

I'll give you guys the most important reason in case you don't know already.
Metalstorm has good and stable relantionships with labels... Labels which wouldn't doubt to stop the connections if they see we have bands with NS ideologies on our database because it counts as promoting to them... Don't bother to argue with the Metal Archives-card because Metalstorm isn't that much of an encyclopedia like MA so it's not the same.

The staff get all sorts of new info, albums to review, interviews, anything... A band with a retarded ideology will not and should not be a cause to ruin all that hard work.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes more sense now ...
As far as I know though, they've changed their ideology and are no longer a NS band.

Yeah, I'm aware that most people know we don't feature NS bands but few really know there's way more to it than just ideologies and stuff.
Reviews, interviews and news are the blood of this website so we can't risk that. I think this information should be somewhere in the FAQ because it's quite an usual question and no one use to bother to explain it better.

Unfortunately there's no possible way the band would be visible regardless if they changed their ways or not. The past is still there.
Obviously you can still freely talk about them though! Don't think we are pricks to not allow you to do so. I know a few staffers and elites that enjoy some music from NS bands and don't care for the ideologies (I'm one of those) but yeah... as you can see, in the long run it's more of a business decision than a personal one.

Cheers and hopefully you'll enjoy the website (and the awards!).

I really don't care about their so-called "ideology" and all that bullshit but these guys don't convince me, musically speaking. Apart from the song Black Raven from the album Nechrist that I like for the atmosphere it seems that I can't get into their stuff. In this NS-Black Folk range I prefer Temnozor.

Personally, I think their only really good release would be Lunar Poetry, everything after that is a bit bland. Specially The Voice of Steel, which is basically folk-ish Dimmu Borgir.

I thought Steel was way better than anything Dimmu has ever done (but of course I am not a big fan of the Borgir).

I believe two members left to form Ygg.

I am still trying to understand if Nok is NSBM these days?

Eh, it's one of those bands whose lyrical content is apparently about paganism or whatever. But some of those bands throw in references to NS ideals.

Plus they were involved with a Graveland tribute, and Rob Darken has long been considered one of NSBM's pioneers.

I did not know about the Graveland tribute. Sigh.

Right, I think most of the music is NOT NSBM despite the members political beliefs. Its very hard for me to tolerate.

But of course Troy, Dave Mustaine has made quite a name for himself this week as well (I am working on a universal fit "plug system" for third world countries, you want in?).

Ideologies aside, I would list Voice of Steel as one of my favorite melodic black metal albums ever. Mixing in some Pink Floyd touches was an odd choice, but it was an excellent one. I didn't want to like them originally because of their questionable beliefs, but I can't deny the excellent songwriting.

News on NM seems like it's hard to come by, but I hope they're working on a new album that continues this more progressive route.

Yes this might be a valid point of view if we weren't metalheads. I usually take pride in the fact that us metalheads are somewhat open minded. I mean there are bands here that promote satanism and suicide and other stupid topics like those. It's like saying "kids, you can worship satan and eviscerate cats in the graveyard at night as much as you want, just don't be proud of your heritage".

Anyway, back on topic, The Voice of Steel is indeed a great album, it just needs to be listened through-out. You can't form a decent opinion based on two songs because the songs are very different. You have the folksier songs, the more progressive ones, more melodic ones and so forth. And what makes the album so great is that each of those tracks is at the top of their fields.

Yeah, because all members of NS bands commit genocide on a daily basis. And it's actually OK to sing about committing genocide as long as it's not vague and indirect, through NS, as some elitist NS bands do. But most are about national pride. And if being proud of your heritage, or simply not dismissing someone who is, isn't open minded, then I don't know what is.
