So, the reason I joined this forum is because the people seem to be tolerant towards more 'alternative' types and fusions of metal genre, even though the extreme metal is probably most popular kind on this forum. Even so, some of the genres (like the top three) usually take a lot of crap/dislike from one reason or another, it doesn't really matter. So, as tolerant and open minded as we all are, we all have some artists/genres we generally don't like, or truly hate.

So, what's your black sheep of the metal family? (and please no crap about 'not metal'). I can respect and tolerate almost anything, but I guess I dislike Black metal the most (and Pornogrind, if you can call it a genre), but there's really no purpose putting poll for it in this forum. Why do I dislike it? I hardly even gave it a try, but it sounds so soulless and empty to me. That's just my subjective opinion of course.

And yours?

This was a tough one, but ultimately I had to choose Deathcore. Being a Death Metal purist of sorts it is sort of an abomination in my eyes. Like if someone attempted to make Blackcore....oh...wow...I almost shiver at the thought....

Need to put some Darkthrone on now to forget I ever said that...

Deathcore I can see out here is generally hated( or the lease liked) by some Clinton's disfigured rural babies but I like deathcore only if you listen good amount of deathcore stuff( NO NO SUICIDE SILENCE DOESN'T FIT HERE, MEH, SO PLEASE BACK OFF!). It's a great evolution of very extreme form of Metal music and to the extent has a great future if it maintains the balance of pretty good stuff. Anyway....

IMO I hate Nu-Metal and reasons are firstly, not a good amount of nu-metal stuffs these days( Drowning Pool were good but got badly broken). Secondly, majority of the nu-metal bands are coming up with pure electronic stuff and labeling "a very different album/ different thought to the albums" which not only ends up their album worse but their Career to the DEAD END!. Lastly, I don't like it. I really dont like it.

I guess I should have broadened my statement. I am a equal opportunity hater. Just about any kind of metal with "core" attached to it is shit in my opinion. For many of the aforementioned reasons, i.e. breakdowns that ruin the flow of an otherwise great song. It's like dub step, which I also loathe. It's like they have a good thing going, it builds up, and then....and then....grind grind grind (or in the case of dub step; sub bass sub bass wobble wobble) for no apparent reason other than it is expected of the genre. Weird...it just feels weird.

I think that no type of bad music sounds worse than a bad nu-metal band (like Drowning Pool, Linkin Park arghhhh); but on the whole, as a genre, I'd say Deathcore is most annoying to me. Case in point, IWABO:

But if anyone might recommend some deathcore band that manages to escape the pitfalls listed above, drop a name here.

I can't stand gore-grind, I just find the genre to be embarrassing and ridiculous. The lyrics are so morbid they're hilarious. There are some more talented bands such as Cannibal Corpse, but there are other bands that are borderline noise.

Cannibal Corpse are just straight forward middle of the road Death Metal. I cant speak for all Goregrind bands but I would dare to say that the lyrics are tongue waaay in cheek for the most part.

You say you don't like Goregrind, Does this include Carcass as well? They seem to be an exception for people who don't like Goregrind (Impaled and Exhumed are pretty awesome as well but they are regarded as Carcass clones)

Carcass is good instrumentally, I'm not the kind of guy for those kind of growling vocals. It takes me a bit to develop an "immunity" if you will to death vocals. I have to listen repeatedly until I can get used to it.

Fair enough, Personally I cant see why people are turned off by harsh vocals in Metal, For the more extreme styles they suit the music perfectly. I would go as far as to say that I prefer them to actual "clean" singing, But that's just me.

I can stand some harsher vocals, such as something from Death or early Opeth, it is more of the Grind vocals that just don't work for me. I respect the artists, it just does not comply with my taste. While not good by any means - those vocals - if you can call them that, lol, I'd rather hear a band like that - vocals included - than any lame hair bands in lipstick singing about chicks and heart-break.

Tough choice. I voted deathcore, although, hate is too strong a word
The thing with the genre is that I generally dislike pigaquels, and I've come across few bands that can pull that shit off without sounding ridiculous. And that ridiculousness reigns supreme in deathcore bands I listened to, or at least tried to.
Another big problem is the fucking breakdown, which ruins the flow of what could be decent death metal songs (tinged with hardcore influences). Just glance at Dying Fetus to see how killer breaks are made, but hey, if it rocks your boat...

Oh yes, and the general lack of any originality whatsoever is very troublesome
But if anyone might recommend some deathcore band that manages to escape the pitfalls listed above, drop a name here.

Well recommend me what you would consider a good deathcore band then and I'll let you know what I think, I'm always open to changing my mind. but all of the ones I've heard till now have disappointed me.

And as it happens, I really like Meshuggah. You think they suck?

I think he means that sometimes Meshuggah are regarded as a thrash band (which I agree with, at least with their chaosphere material anyway) although a really unorthodox one, just not a good choice to represent the genre because of how there sound is radically different.

I've heard them be referred to as Djent too, whatever that means. Although if IWABO aren't deathcore I don't know what other genre to label them as, and I didn't feel that they sound that different to other deathcore bands I've heard.

Djent is debatably a genre, the term was coined by the band Periphery who refer to their sound as "Djent", Its basically a mix of progressive metal and sometimes Metalcore and throwing in elements of Meshuggahs albums, Most specifically the album Nothing. Here is Periphery

As for Iwrestledabearonce their sound is not really Orthodox is it? their sound is quite unique sometimes and that helps them stand out from a lot of bog standard Deathcore such as Carnifex and Bring Me's earliest material (I don't like Ifoughtwithadonkeyyesterday but they do a lot more to stand out than a trillion other standard Deathcore bands regardless if it sucks or not).

So if someone asked me to choose a representative of what standard Death core sounds like I wouldn't choose Imgoingtofightatigertomorrow in the same way I wouldn't choose Meshuggah to represent thrash although I regard them as such.

Deathcore was an easy choice for me.

All the other genres listed in the poll I don't consider myself a fan of, but they all have at least one band or two that I find interesting. Deathcore is the only one that does not.

A pal of mine is quoted as saying, "Deathcore bands are typically screemo kids who want to do some tough guy posturing." I couldn't agree more; while there are some acceptable bands in the genre (The Red Chord and All Shall Perish being the only ones off the top of my head), most bands are exactly that: the same 'ole chugging riffs and breakdowns while some screemo kid performs pig squeals. Even with the bands who attempt to take a more intelligent approach to the genre, I don't find the characteristics of the music to be of interest.

That was actually a pretty good song! Not too keen on the vocalist but the rest of the band made up for it. I could kind of see what you meant about the djent although they weren't that alike to Meshuggah imo.

I like that band a lot tbh (even the vocals), and I would say their sound is reminiscent of Nothing (the Meshuggah album) with that really weird guitar tone, Odd time signatures etc. but the band has their own twist on the sound and as a whole sound different, A lot of Djent bands have "that tone", which is why you will probably hear someone on a Djent bands youtube videos calling them Meshuggah rip offs.
