So, the reason I joined this forum is because the people seem to be tolerant towards more 'alternative' types and fusions of metal genre, even though the extreme metal is probably most popular kind on this forum. Even so, some of the genres (like the top three) usually take a lot of crap/dislike from one reason or another, it doesn't really matter. So, as tolerant and open minded as we all are, we all have some artists/genres we generally don't like, or truly hate.
So, what's your black sheep of the metal family? (and please no crap about 'not metal'). I can respect and tolerate almost anything, but I guess I dislike Black metal the most (and Pornogrind, if you can call it a genre), but there's really no purpose putting poll for it in this forum. Why do I dislike it? I hardly even gave it a try, but it sounds so soulless and empty to me. That's just my subjective opinion of course.
Why is alternative metal in the choices What people don't like Sludge, Doom or Stoner
doom alternative? Sludge I can see people viewing that as alternative and stoner also a bit but not doom as such.
Why's that ? I think alot of sludge and stoner pick up some doom sound and it also applies to the contrary.
sludge mixes a lot of hardcore with doom.
But for normal doom I meant death/doom, funeral/doom, traditional doom, epic doom, black/doom and there is nothing alternative aabout that sort of doom at all.
Or do you consider Black Sabbath's first couple of albums also as alternative?
Well no not Black Sabbath but I mean Sludge/Doom is still a doom band even if its not pure doom if you understand what I mean, Im not saying theres no exeptions im only saying that to an extent you can say that some doom bands are alternative aswell... anyways my point wasn't there I was just saying: Is alternative metal that bad I don't think so lol, theres alot of hidden jewels in the large world of alternative metal.. thats all. You just kinda played on words but I still like you Marcel
People who think alternative metal are bad are generally morons who limit their opinion of the entire broad spectrum to just LimpKornofaDown-X or whatever. there is a nice, long thread devoted to these stupid people opening their yaps, and several wise and brilliant open-minded metalheads eviscerating the simpletons.
Deathcore sucks, but for me it's Black Metal that I can't stand. I tried listening to it's good material (Enslaved, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir) But it remains annoying as all Hell to me. Plus, their general controversy (Church burnings, violence, satanist crap) gives the rest of Heavy Metal a bad name. God-awful genre.
Written by Guest on 11.08.2011 at 07:51 Black metal: I tried listening to it's good mainstream representatives and judge the scene for the actions of its musicians as opposed to the quality of the music.

Congats, you are now a black metal fan. Because seriously, how could you NOT like this? Unrelenting fucking hatred-their words, not mine.
Written by NecroCorpSlayer on 12.08.2011 at 16:32 Metalcore. It sounds like screamo with metal instruments, and the vocalists are always washed up emos.
Sounds more like you listen to melodic metalcore (that watered down "Gothenburg" stuff) as opposed to real metalcore.

Deathcore and Metalcore. I hate that screaming/growl crap. I can't get into that music at all, its just to... out there and pointless. Nu-Metal's pretty shitty too.
No genre really. I think I'm pretty open when it comes to genres and their labels. I used to be more restrictive when I started listening to metal and gave "genre definitions" a lot more attention that I do now and that made me not listen to certain things. Now I just go with the flow, if it's good I'll listen to it. There might be genres I don't listen to that much at some point but it is not due to a prejudice toward them.
Hair metal. I like a few nu bands, and I'm sure there is at least one decent metalcore band on the planet - I haven't found it yet, but nevermind - but hair metal just rubs me the wrong way 100% of the time.
I have no idea what the OP means by "alternative" metal, and I've come upon the name "deathcore" when I started frequenting MS, but I'm not sure I understand what the hell it is. I imagine it's just metalcore with actual growling (as opposed to little bitch screaming / vomit-inducing "clean vox" dichotomy that is de rigeur for metalcore). Feel free to educate me if I'm wrong.
Of the genres I've listened to/have albums from (so that excludes Metalcore and Deathcore) the one I don't like is American Death Metal. I don't mind the European stuff, but I just find the American stuff...bland? Boring? I dunno, I just can't seem to get into it.

Here as well, I'm not in the slightest rush to find it though
I don't hate any genres. I used to hate power metal as a whole some 5 years ago but I figured that some of my favorite bands are power metal, so the genre CAN spawn good stuff. Used to hate symphonic metal with those operatic female vocals, but I grew up and realized that I can ignore it if I want to. As for the rest of the genres I harbor no interest in - black, old school/tech death, doom and thrash - I simply haven't explored them yet.
I hate core and nu bands. The main problem I have with them is that alot of people I know don't believe there is anything to metal beyond core and nu. They give the rest of metal a bad name.
Tough choice. I voted deathcore, although, hate is too strong a word
The thing with the genre is that I generally dislike pigaquels, and I've come across few bands that can pull that shit off without sounding ridiculous. And that ridiculousness reigns supreme in deathcore bands I listened to, or at least tried to.
Another big problem is the fucking breakdown, which ruins the flow of what could be decent death metal songs (tinged with hardcore influences). Just glance at Dying Fetus to see how killer breaks are made, but hey, if it rocks your boat...
Oh yes, and the general lack of any originality whatsoever is very troublesome
But if anyone might recommend some deathcore band that manages to escape the pitfalls listed above, drop a name here.

People have been blowing their load over Born of Osiris. I hear if you don't like them, you pretty much just don't like deathcore.

Well. I like at least one band from every genre you mentioned, except Deathcore (maybe metalcore too, I don't remember...). Deathcore must be the worst fusion genre ever created. While metalcore is boring, deathcore is annoying in all aspects. Annoying vocals, annoying breakdowns, emo hair and utterly stupid lyrics. I can mention "suicide silence" as the worst Deathcore band I've ever listened. Nu metal: I am not a fan, but some releases of Korn and Disturbed are quite enjoyable.
But the worst music genre ever created is Goregrind.
