I can't believe that there is not an official thread about Dimmu Borgir. I just recently started listening to this wonderful band. Their first album "For all tid" is perfect and extremely beautiful.

So post your opinions and stuff that has anything to do with this band!

I got Stormblast for birthday in 6 grade of elementary school, 8 years ago... And in that time there weren't much Melodic/Symphonic or whatever Black Metal bands, like we have today. It was strange that one Black Metal album starts with 1:30 piano intro, vocals were typical black screams, but comparing to Mayhem... And then we have few very good, little more progressive and melodiv but still Black Metal songs and then, suprise of the evening, Sorgens Kammer, 6 minutes song all on piano and synths, there were some similar songs before but nothing like this. Whole album was something new, not something sensatual but still new. Stormblåst song is awesome, maybe best example how mix of Black Metal and Synths/keys should sound, back keys and thin guitars, with fast bass/drums rhytm section, and still good vocals. I liked the most Antikrist, my favorite whistling song, hehe... Maybe all I wrote is true, probably not but that is why this album was and still is original for me...
btw, you look normal to me, but it is better to speak with some specialist about your mental condition

Hehe,

"Am i 'normal' ?" ---> i know the answer already, irony .

I guess i should have tried everything which has been done before Dimmu Borgir and Stormblast to have the most accurate opinion about it... But, its easy to understand why i dont find Stormblast original.. im just too young and i didnt even know them at the time when it was released. Plus, i said that before, im kinda ignorant in all this . I have a special way to view and listen to music, i always start from the lastest releases to the first ones ... Maybe its not the right way to understand it... Anyway...Im sorry, just wanted to tell what impression i had when listening to it.

Antikrist always is cool song. If Im not mistaken its track 6 or 8.. Exactly all songs from Stormblast are good. Though if it have english lyric or lyric translation I would be happier self-feel.

Listening to the lastest release also can make us match the good stuff. It also depend on each band concretely, some bands good stuff are more close to present, some bands had good ones in the far of the past. When I listen to Catamenia, their last stuff really captivate me most.

Sadly that now I dont have the orginal Stormblast, and I must enjoy the re release:)

I honestly didnt mind one or two of the rereleased songs from the new Stormblast, but the downside it sounded too synthetic...

@Jet
Yeah, Catamenias new stuff is good...did you ever get the chance to check out catamenias first two albums?

Well, I really think that the first two Dimmu Borgir's albuns are great! Stormblast is a Black Metal masterpiece, one of my favorite Black Metal albuns! It's so dark and melancholic, the vocals are great too! But after this album the band became pure shit for me..

What about "Alt Lys Er Svunnet Hen" and "Sorgens Kammer" (I don't know if I spelled right! hehe!)?? I really think that this songs are very melancholic, they fill me with sadness when I listen to them..

Maybe it is normal but I am retard Alt Lys... fills me with anger and I am ready to go berserk when I hear that song, and when I listen Sorg... I have some strange feeling, but it is best to live that for me, I don't want to make everybody laughing to me haha

Heheeheh! Really?? Alt Lys make you angry?? That is bizarre! I would expect that from songs like "Blessings Upon The Throne Of Tyranny", but not from this one... heheh!

Maybe this will sound pathetic, but I actually cried once listening to Sorgens.. Actually it was because of a girl, but the song just made me remember of her and all the shit that happened.. hehehehe!

@Metal-Messiah - haha, well I am extreme violent person, haha. No really that song is great inspiration for me... to go out and broke someones teeth, haha. I cryied before listening to some song, but I doubt I will ever cry listening to Dimmu Borgir, I prefer Gorgoroth or Mayhem, hahaha
I don't know man, it is not to much melancholic for me, rather extreme...

@Woodsy - I think I know what you mean, but still I wouldn't change my old Dimmu Borgir Stormblast for any other Dimmu Borgir CD. Antikrist is my number one

@Hellraizer, I have one song, Hall of Frozen North from the first album of Catamenia, and I checked samples of Morning Crimson. And I have to say that those 2 stuff are intense, dark and they are good in different way to the lately Location:Cold. They are intense of leaning towards dark while the Location: Cold is intense of beautiful melodic. The early stuff you mention are more extreme than the lately one and the vocals and also the vocals with the recording style are less dark respectively in my ears's opionion.

Just gone to Dimmu Borgir official site, it has a new layout. I hunt high and low the Stormblast rerelease cover for wallpaper. Thats cover is so great with dark head of Satan. I wonder why its so rare to get

@Aronax: HEheheheeh! Yeah, I don't see how Stormblast can be a extreme album, it's very slow, obscure and, for me, melancholic... I actually never cried for nothing, but I was so depressed, it's so bizarre the way that a girl can fuck with my feelings.. hehehe!

Catamenia is awesome....Especially Chaosborn and Eskatha but my favorite is Winternight Tradgedies cozz of "Kaamos Warrior" and "Heart of Darkness" those songs totally slay. They can evoke some of the most insane melodies yet keep it dark and grim..super stuff.

And yeah back to the topic...im super excited about the new Dimmu I have a feelings its gonna be great, especially with Helhammer on sticks

@Slottet av Take, Im eager to have a chance for those you mention of Catamenia stuff, only listened to 1 song of Chaosborn and its good song.

I guess Dimmu Borgir doesnt change much their style so we can hope that the stuff of 2007 is good to listen.

I listened to the opening song, and I found it really good. A lot better than DCA.

Can't wait to hear the whole album. Even though most people will hate I don't see why I wouldn't like it. I always seem to like what others dislike. After all I think Damnation and a Day is simply a masterpiece.

I love concept albums.

It felt very bland, no really highlights on the cd, nor anything really bad either. While listening to it I barly got into it at all, and it lacked what I would call "feeling". It just felt overpolished and formulatic, to the degree it was boring.

Also sad to see Shagrath using his vocals like that, more high pitched growls in ISD (not that high pitched though, its still shagrath by any means). Compared to his more harsh growls from ealier which I obviously preffered.

This is one of my favorite BM bands, I don't care if it's symphonic or too melo, they have very good albums and songs, for me the best album is "Death Cult Armageddon". I've heard only a couple of songs of the new album and I think it isn't that bad.

@Basso: What I'm looking forward to is simply listening to the album from the beginning to the end. I'm a bit concerned about the "not getting into the album" thing, but I hope it will turn out alright for me.

The Serpentine Offering was a really good song, but nothing really special, except for Vortex's vocals. Good, as always.

I got the whole album last Wednesday, it sounds awesome. I think it's as good as DCA, altough it's a little bit more mid-tempo. Stay tuned, the guitar riffs along with the synth are very very good.

My favourite song is The Sacrilegious Scorn, the verse riff gave me goosebumps.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not the biggest Dimmu fan around (AT ALL), but I found the new album pretty very boring. Nothing stood out as especially dark/emotional/fast/grim/grandiose. Ahh well, at least I had no expectations.

Ave Sathanas!
I am listening to "In Sorte Diaboli" for the first time right now, currently on the seventh track listed as "The Fundamental Alienation." I too can't say anything has really stuck out, it seem's to flow pretty evenly, which isn't so bad because the album is a story linked by each song. But perhap's a few more listen's and I'll have some favoured track's, but I like it, it's not quite as great as I was expecting but it's still really good.
After reading mixed opinion's on differant web site's I wasn't too sure what to think, because some people said it was Dimmu's greatest work ever, and other's said it was their worst, I personally feel it's in the middle, well better than average.

I am very curious to read the lyric's to better (or actually) understand the story within the lyric's, and to see what the new video will be like.
