Yesterday i saw an commercial on mtv it was about the new dimmu album i just thought man whats wrong with these guys did metal ever need comercials to sell albums??? NO so why this commercial? maybe because the new album sucks and they need some promotion to earn some money^^

Seriously it's pretty freaken stupid that a "black metal" band, a genre that supposebly teaches independent thinking and individualism, has a commerical on MTV. How does black metal + MTV add up people, since when did Dimmu ever have to put out a commerical in the past. Still though people shouldn't judge or automatically say their new album is going to suck or whatever without actually hearing it.

ive listened to this album for 1-2 months i know that this album sucks!

What's the big deal around this? Come on guys, discuss the album. Discuss the 'true spirit of grim black metal' in the appropriate thread.

Dimmu is one of my favorite bands. and their new album, In Sorte Diaboli, is a true masterpiece. they pulled off the dark ages theme very well

Right, because everything that is advertised sucks...

I can see where people are coming from by being "upset" about Dimmu promoting their new album on t.v., especially on MTV. I guess all I can say is if you have the utility to promote the album then use it, maybe Nuclear Blast is encouraging them to do so, some time's band's are pretty much forced to do things that they do not want to really do, but the record label ends up with the final word.

I also think that true fans of Dimmu will endure, sure they may gain some new fans but only people that can really appreciate their music will stay with them as others may just go through a phase, or a trend. In Sorte Diaboli has very non-mainstream lyric's, I've only read through three song's but I like them a lot, it's empowering and inspirational and reaches back to the roots of black metal, at least in an ideological sense; reviving the old ways of one's pagan/european heritage.

I don't have nor watch t.v. so this stuff doesn't effect me, but at the same time I would hope that Dimmu is good enough, and well known enough that the album should be able to promote itself without commercialization, but I don't enjoy their music any less for this action, I enjoy the music for what it is and that's how it should be.

I just saw Dimmu Borgir last night, they played well but they were really lacking in the stage presence department, but altogether a great show.

i'm going to catch them in phoenix later this month. not a big fan, but a friend of mine is and grabbed an extra ticket for me.

should be entertaining.

Yeah, why does the fact that they had a comercial on MTV mean that their new album sucks? That makes no sense. I listened to some of the songs on the album and thought they were alright, nothing break through, but it did not suck.

I've asked this question a million times, and never got a response. Why do people hate this band, and how does a little publicity make them sell-outs?

Oh yeah Buddy, every artist choose his fans, and I don't think that Dimmu Borgir still needing people like us.
I have a bad interpretation of what's happening. All I see is dogfight for US market, I think most Scandinavians have a new obsession called the USA!!!! All of them are dreaming about getting in there, performing concerts, selling products and even living there!!! God Bless America!!! Jon Nodveidt of "Dissection" had committed suicide just after the rejection of his Visa to the US! I don't know why? Nevertheless, Dimmu Borgir music still Good. we are just swimming against the tide...

I saw them last night. It's not all that I had hoped it would be. I didn't play that many songs that I liked but... it was an OK show anyways... Hellhammer is an awesome drummer! (First time I've seen him play live) Can't wait to see Mayhem...

Dude the band is 100% commercial no doubt in that .. but making the last album SOO commercial is so gay .. and do the best they have to promote it and sell it.. it's the worth album for this year between metal release... and dimmu borgir making black metal sound gay.. pftt

It can't possibly be that unhappy and awful....at least....if you really hate the new album and their new commercialism(so called) then listen to only older albums that you like(if you do of course)....I like Dimmu's old material...haven't actually even heard much of their newer things....and I'm satisfied...I can't say bad about them....

A very mediocre band with a very mediocre new album. Some good riffs here and there, enough to make me want to see them, not enough to make me buy a t-shirt and listen to the album on a regular basis.

Also, Shagrath looks and sounds ridiculous.

I'd agree. Musically the set was solid last night. Performed well. Heckmallet was awesome behind the drum kit (unearth lost their drummer so Gene Hoglan filled in... great night for drummers), the stage presence between songs was a bit lacking... Shaggy trying to remain in character the entire time was amusing.

Incidentally Ruthless Reviews once included Galdar on their Top 10 most ridiculous black metal pics (2005 version, i believe) for all the overdramatic faces he makes on stage. Had I been playing the "galdar ridiculous face drinking game", I would have died of liver failure before the end of the third song...

Well agree, I won't write again things that million of people wrote here: they were better, I like old Dimmu... They are just boring and nothing new.
I don't about Shagrath but he definetely sound ridiculouc on Kamelot video...

Has everyone seen the news about Dimmu being kicked out of the British album charts? I think its bloody stupid, not that they'd get too far, but still... Its not as if Im more likeley to purchase the album if it had a mirror or a competition inside....

They are great Black metal band.

I listened to Spirtual Black Dimensions recently (Not for the first time)
the opening track is a little bit annoying, but other than that it's a good album.

dude ofcourse... but in my opinion atleast... the first 3 albums were good the rest nothing but shitty things specailly the last one.. whats ur point anyways ?

Why then you scream about being commercial? Do you see it in first albums too?
