I'm looking for bands that sound like Edguy, Sonata Arctica, Celesty or Heavenly. Yeah, I know that those bands sounds different but I want tips about bands that sound similar to any of those bands. I'm starting to get tired to always listening to the same bands so I need something new.

Do the people here recommending US bands really think this is what the OP is looking for?

I feel the same way, but still it's not for us to decide. I wouldn't appreciate people name-dropping the flowery stuff if I asked for recommendations.

You have a point but it started with Iced Earth which doesn't belong here either. Let's make it right

I think I'll disagree in the comparison of Pyramaze with Sonata and the likes mentioned in the opening post. To me they're more progressive than power and definitaly not as "symphonic".

Lately I've been into Conquest and the song "Frozen Sky". The vocals are terrible, but that riff is something else! Oh, and I usually hate this kind of cheezy Power Metal.

That intro riff is quite catchy indeed.

I see a lot of people say that they hate cheesy power metal, but I find myself enjoying it quite a bit at times. In fact, I've yet to really find a genre of metal (or music for that matter) that I don't enjoy.

Right? I think it's great, although it annoys the crap out of me to have it stuck in my brain. And yeah, I haven't found a metal genre I truly dislike. There are some cheesy Power bands I do enjoy, like Power Quest.

Here are my all-time Top 10 european / melodic / neoclassical power metal albums => http://metalstorm.ee/users/list.php?list_id=83 - with a little description to each one.

OFF: I have a band called Mandara and I'm the keyboard player. Our style is very similar to these bands but I think it's unique at the same time. We are still recording our first 2 demos - planned to be released around May & August. The 1st one called "Meadow Of Dreams" contains 4 songs - Endless Night Momentary Dawn, Embrace My Dream, Hypocrite Reality and Holy Prophecy. I'll upload some stuff to myspace when we are ready - I hope you will enjoy my/our music!
Sorry for the adv!

Can I ask for some tips too? I'm trying to find some new band with female vocals, which I used to like very much, but the bands I heard just sounded too common for me - like Delain. Anybody can help me?

Most impressive from last days were MAGICA ( Romania ) and KAIRA ( Russia ).

Beautiful Sin - The Unexpected has one of the most amazing female vocals that are full of power and conviction. It's been reviewed on this site. Click here

If you don't mind a more poppish sound, UnSun's "The End Of Life" is bloody good too.

Try Serenity, last album. I think it will perfectly fit your taste. Relatively young band, but on the highest level of songwriting and production in power metal.

i think Freedom Call has some nice stuff, also Edguy might be a pretty nice option for PW

Freedom Call sounds decent, from what I heard. Their best album is Eternity.

I'm checking out Heraldry's Shadows Of Ancient Skies, which sounds pretty decent. As a minus: it's pretty typical euro-power (from Italy, surprise surprise).

The Unity

We are totally devastated and have to inform you that Henjo had a serious traffic accident. He was hit by a car as a pedestrian and suffered several injuries. Though he is already on his way to recover we are all very, very sad and worried right now and wish him all the best and a speedy recovery! Unfortunately Henjo can't play the upcoming concerts in Nordenham, but he wanted us not to cancel these shows. We are very grateful to have our dear friend Roby De Micheli from Rhapsody Of Fire stepping in.

We wish you all the best from the bottom of our hearts, dear Henjo!!!
