I feel the same way, but still it's not for us to decide. I wouldn't appreciate people name-dropping the flowery stuff if I asked for recommendations.

I think I'll disagree in the comparison of Pyramaze with Sonata and the likes mentioned in the opening post. To me they're more progressive than power and definitaly not as "symphonic".

Lately I've been into Conquest and the song "Frozen Sky". The vocals are terrible, but that riff is something else! Oh, and I usually hate this kind of cheezy Power Metal.

That intro riff is quite catchy indeed.

I see a lot of people say that they hate cheesy power metal, but I find myself enjoying it quite a bit at times. In fact, I've yet to really find a genre of metal (or music for that matter) that I don't enjoy.

Right? I think it's great, although it annoys the crap out of me to have it stuck in my brain. And yeah, I haven't found a metal genre I truly dislike. There are some cheesy Power bands I do enjoy, like Power Quest.

I was once used to loved Conquest...but nowadays i find them a bit dull...

still there are some quite good songs by them...like this cheesy ballad

Most impressive from last days were MAGICA ( Romania ) and KAIRA ( Russia ).

Try Serenity, last album. I think it will perfectly fit your taste. Relatively young band, but on the highest level of songwriting and production in power metal.

Agreed, Hammer Fall are amazing, try out Avantasia too.

Wuthering Heights, especially The Shadow Cabinet. It is fast and powerful, and manages to be uplifting while still having a dark edge.

Gamma Ray, Helloween, Freedom Call, Avantasia, HammerFall, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius and Rhapsody Of Fire is some really good Power Metal bands.

Or maybe "most well-known" bands

i think Freedom Call has some nice stuff, also Edguy might be a pretty nice option for PW

Freedom Call sounds decent, from what I heard. Their best album is Eternity.

I'm checking out Heraldry's Shadows Of Ancient Skies, which sounds pretty decent. As a minus: it's pretty typical euro-power (from Italy, surprise surprise).

The Unity

We are totally devastated and have to inform you that Henjo had a serious traffic accident. He was hit by a car as a pedestrian and suffered several injuries. Though he is already on his way to recover we are all very, very sad and worried right now and wish him all the best and a speedy recovery! Unfortunately Henjo can't play the upcoming concerts in Nordenham, but he wanted us not to cancel these shows.
