I couldn't find a topic like this, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of interest in it. But since one of the biggest reasons for my coming here is to discover new music, I think we ought to have a topic dedicated to recommending the latest and greatest music to have just been released. We have staff picks and great reviews already, but a lot of stuff goes under the radar. So share your exciting new discoveries or the comebacks of old favorites with the rest of us here.
I guess it's nice to start this from the beginning of the year, but you can of course recommend some 2010 albums you think were overlooked, too.
My recommendations that haven't already been covered by MS reviews are, so far:
Crowbar - Sever The Wicked Hand: Kirk got sober and found Jesus. Good for him, I guess. It doesn't show in the music, which is as thick, sludgy and melancholy as ever before. Another solid addition to an incredibly consistent discography, if not quite their strongest effort.
DoomSword - The Eternal Battle: I've been pretty unfamiliar with DoomSword for a long time even if I've known about them and heard a song here and there. That's still the case. From what I can tell, though, The Eternal Battle is not quite as doomy and epic as their first albums but rather leans towards traditional heavy metal with the faster riffs and stuff. Pretty impressive nonetheless, there's something authentic and endearing about the band. (Couldn't find a sample, sorry.)
Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon: The sludge/stoner act Weedeater buzzes and crushes away with a deep, heavy sound that really appeals to me. When they're loud, they're tight. There's some strange filler and interludes on this album that don't really fit in, though.
Orchid - Capricorn: Orchid have released a lauded EP already, but Capricorn is their first full-length. They play groovy old school Sabbath worship. It's not new, but why should it be when it's this good?
Have you listened to latest Powerwolf album?? I found it almost as enjoyable as their "Bible of the Beast" album, which is indeed good news! Similar songs, similar album structure and the same sound... nothing to complain, this is exactly what I'm looking for in such bands. What do you guys think?
Suicide Silence is a death-core band, which is something you need to decide for yourself if you are a fan of, some of the rhythms with Suicide Silence are the same-but overall this release, "The Black Crown" beats the shit out of their last one, "No time to Bleed". "Slaves to Substance" is a blood splattering tune, "Fuck Everything", & their sluggish tune "Witness to Addiction" is a really good expansion of their style. If you haven't seen um live yet, you have to check um out-the lead singer-Mitch Lucker, gives it his all and has great charisma. Suicide Silence definitely knows the way to get a following is touring non-stop, which they will be on extensive world wide tour until December 13, 2011.
Vesen - Goat Carcass Rising: Norwegian black/thrash
Listened to the album only once, but I like it already. It' s not that black at all, it's almost pure thrash but that's not a problem for me. Count them in for top 5 thrash album of 2011.

Invisible profile of the band now available. So go ahead and submit the needed data.
Btw, this track isn't totally representative of the album due to the clean guest vocals by Pallbearer's vocalist.
Btw, up to now my favourite extreme doom album of the year.
And if you really enjoy this album I urge you to check out your coutnrymen Mournful Congregation, if you haven't yet. Loss operates along the same lines they do.

Damn, just discovered a very good thrash record. Didn't know the band at all.
The band is called Satanika and they're from Italy. They released their first full-length in March through Austral Holocaust and it's called Satanikattack. If you like your thrash fast and with a black undertone, this is your thing!

Not really representative of the album though, due to the clean guest vocals done by Pallbearer's vocalist.
Yeah, I realized that. Have heard a bunch of songs online now, not the entire album though. I'm a little disappointed. It's still good, but quite more generic than I originally thought. Will have to go back to them at some point.

Exactly my sentiments after everything I'd heard about it. Nothing I haven't heard before and there are many superior doom albums. And calling this band "extreme" seems somehow wrong in my opinion. It's slow with some heavy moments but not crushing or evil or difficult to listen to. In fact it's rather effusive.
I prefer this personally, has a bit more of an edge:
While we're on the subject of generic, Omega Massif just released their third album Karpatia. They are nothing groundbreaking, but quite good instrumental sludge in the vein of Pelican. If you liked Year Of No Light's Ausserwelt last year, you may like this.
As to Loss to my ears they aren't extreme either, they are along the lines of Mournful Congregation with the same sort of melodic guitar lines (hence the not too original sound) but MC are always classified as extreme doom that's why called Loss thatg as well. Same could apply for Worship which also reallly isn't too extreme. A lot of fuzzed out stoner is way more extreme...
That was my little bridge to Saturnalia Temple - Aion Of Drakon. Great fuzzed stoner alpng the lines of Electric Wizard by a former Therion member.
omega Massif - Karpatia is awesome and should be hear by anyone that loves Year Of No Light kind of post metal/doom

Thanks for adding them, some really great material on that album. I agree, that song doesn't really give an accurate sense of the album, but it's one of the best tracks for me.
And judging by their other albums I'm hoping for an enjoyable listen from Mournful Congregation's latest

Generic or not that's quite satisfying for me, great stuff.
